The annual Big Band parade took place from Partick to the Kelvingrove Museum, Glasgow with 200 pipers and drummers from various pipe bands, many international, to celebrate the opening of Piping Live, the most prestigious pipe band championship in the world. GLIX – Eastbourne, UK. 9th Aug, 2026. The annual Beachy Head World Championship Penny Farthing Climb took place in Eastbourne today. Forty riders from the UK and across Europe tackled the 4.69 km ride from Eastbourne Western Lawns, climbing 150 metres in elevation to reach Beachy Head. The event is staged as a time trial with each rider departing one minute after the previous. Last year’s winner, Frenchman Alex Voisine, was first to set off.
