GLIX – TELDE, GRAN CANARIA, SPAIN – JULY 13, 2026: Rescued loggerhead turtles (Caretta caretta) undergo rehabilitation at the Taliarte Wildlife Recovery Center in Gran Canaria after being found stranded along the island’s coastline. Many of the animals admitted to the centre are affected by marine debris, including plastic waste and discarded fishing gear. An unusually stormy year in the eastern Atlantic has also contributed to an increase in sea turtle strandings, with rough sea conditions bringing more weakened turtles ashore.
