GLIX – Filipino farmers cuts coconut tree trunks with a chainsaw to produce coconut wood planks (coco lumber). In rural and mountainous areas of the Philippine archipelago, January echoes with the sound of chainsaws following the typhoon season, as drier ground conditions allow access to plantations. Fallen coconut palm trees are cut on site and reused mainly as building material. Work is carried out within coconut farms using manual tools, pack and draft animals or small-scale transport.
